At Parkhotel Valkenburg, four-legged friends are most welcome! We understand that a vacation without your furry friend is not a real vacation and therefore offer a dog package with many extras. For example, when you book this package you will receive an ergonomic dog mat in your room and drinking bowls (and dog treats) will be provided.

Our hotel is surrounded by the hills of Limburg, perfect for wonderful hiking trails with the dog! Check out these routes at the bottom of the page.

Dog walking service terms and conditions

We offer a dog walking service under the following conditions:

  • To be requested based on availability
  • All from Mondays to Thursdays
  • Walking once = €15.
  • We are not responsible for any accidents while walking, the responsibility lies with the owner.

Hiking routes through the hilly landscape of Limburg.

Here are five fun hiking or biking routes starting from Valkenburg, with junctions for optimal navigation through the Limburg countryside:

1. Valkenburg – Castle ruins and the Caves

  • Distance: about 4 km
  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Nodes: Starting point: Valkenburg, Station
  • Junction 1: Castle ruins Valkenburg
  • Junction 2: Municipal Cave or Velvet Cave
  • Junction 3: Valkenburg Center

This short walking tour starts at the Valkenburg train station and leads you to the Castle Ruin, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Then you can explore the famous Gemeentegrot or Fluweelengrot, which are known for their impressive history and works of art. The route is ideal for a short but informative trip.

2. Valkenburg – Cauberg and the Schinveldse Bossen

  • Distance: about 10 km
  • Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours
  • Nodes: Starting point: Valkenburg, Station
  • Junction 1: Cauberg (Amstel Gold Race
  • Junction 2: Schinveldse Bosse
  • Junction 3: Valkenburg (via forest and field paths)

This route leads you from Valkenburg to the famous Cauberg, which is a legendary climb in the Amstel Gold Race. From the Cauberg, you will follow a path through the Schinveldse Bossen. The route offers a varied landscape of forests, hills and rural paths. Along the way you can enjoy nature, and the route ends again in Valkenburg.

3. Valkenburg – Geul Valley

  • Distance: about 7 km
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Nodes: Starting point: Valkenburg, Station
  • Node 1: Geulvallei
  • Junction 2: Houthem
  • Junction 3: Valkenburg Center

This route takes you through the beautiful Geul Valley and along the river Geul. You will walk through green meadows and forests and pass the picturesque village of Houthem. Along the way you will have views of the hills and the Limburg countryside. This route is ideal for nature and peace seekers and is easy to follow with the junctions.

4. Valkenburg – Termaar and Epen

  • Distance: about 12 km
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Nodes: Starting point: Valkenburg, Station
  • Junction 1: Valkenburg Center
  • Junction 2: Termaar
  • Junction 3: Epen
  • Junction 4: Valkenburg Center

This hiking trail takes you to the picturesque villages of Termaar and Epen. You will pass green hills, meadows and orchards, overlooking the beautiful Heuvelland countryside. The route is not too difficult, but does offer some climbing in the hilly landscape. It is a great way to experience the hill country of South Limburg.

5. Valkenburg – Molenbeek valley

  • Distance: about 25 km
  • Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours
    Nodes: Starting point: Valkenburg, Station
  • Node 1: Molenbeek valley
  • Junction 2: Schinveldse Bossen
  • Junction 3: Oirsbeek
  • Junction 4: Valkenburg

This bike tour leads you along the Molenbeek valley, a picturesque valley with a number of old water mills. The route follows the winding stream and passes through picturesque villages such as Schinveld and Oirsbeek. The route is varied, with quiet bike paths through forests and along meadows. The landscape is typical of South Limburg: hilly and green.
